ABOUT
Kate Galligher is a contemporary portrait painter located in South Florida. A lifelong creator, Kate has painted since an early age, learning along the way. Her work is characterized by striking contrast, elements of storytelling, and a vein of gold. She enjoys tying her life experiences in her art along with the collective experience, themes of spirituality, emotion, and what it means to be human.
My Art
Growing up in Florida and surrounded by the glow of the sun and eternal green made its mark on my work. You won't see a beach scene in any of my paintings, but little bits of the Sunshine State show up in my art with hues of yellow, green, and (of course) gold; the colors I'm often surrounded with on a day-to-day basis.
I am obsessed with two things: nature and exploring the human experience. Because of this, my work often features elements that speak to these themes: religious iconography and symbolic reflections of nature, and how they relate to the subject, the unique connection we all have to inner selves, nature, and the world.
When painting, I am often exploring my personal experiences, feelings, observations, or thoughts, but my goal is to create an end piece that many can relate with, reflect on, and connect with on a personal level.
"Art is not what you see, but what you make others see." - Edgar Degas"
